Background of Newton International College
The College was established in mid-1993. It was initiated by Tan Sri Shariff Ahmad, a former Minister of Education and Mr. Yan Kock Yuen an entrepreneur.
During the period, Mr. Yan the Owner of the Syuen group of companies built a hotel, “The Syuen Hotel” in Ipoh. Whilst attempting to source employee for this enterprise, Mr.Yan discovered that personnel training in this sector is not easily available. This prompted the founder to start a Hotel & Catering Management School. A building was developed on a piece of land located in Gopeng Road and structured specially for training in discipline of Hotel and Catering Management. The school began operations in 1993 but soon as the population outgrew the capacity of the premises to cater for the increased number of students, a new building was developed in Pekan Razaki. This new building is capable to accommodate approximately 600 students. The person who visited the school to grant accreditation both from the Ministry and the foreign University have opinion that the college has some of the best facilities for the conduct of training in Hotel Management in this region.
